Default RE: Hangar9 P51 PTS trainer

The PTS mustang is a blast to fly. Im new to the hobby and learned on the mustang. Im an old fart of 40 who came over from offroad R/C racing. I picked it up pretty fast. I was advised by the guys who trained me to take the 3 blade prop off and put a 2 blade on it (for get out of trouble power), remove the speed brakes, and fix the flaps to level. Leave the wing droops on it. I learned with this setup and have 2 other birds I fly. Twist 40 and P-47 thunderbolt 60. I still turn to the mustang for several flights when im at the field. Its just too fun to not put her in the air. I went with the RTF version and the evolution engine has been a great little power plant so far. I have had no issues with landing gear blocks like alot of people have. With the wing droops on, the plane floats in really nice. Especially with a head wind. The only mishap I have had was the muffler came loose and I lost pressure to the fuel tank on an upline and the engine died. I wasnt up high enough and landed it in a bush. It had some minor cracks in the fuse that were fixed in an hour. My fault for not checking the muffler bolts. I even used loctite. I got away pretty cheap for having my first crash. I inspect my planes alot closer now. Newbie mistake. The rtf came with the sim for the plane and while it was very helpful for learning landings and thumb movement, its alot different on take off. The real plane requires more right rudder input than the sim.
Alot of guys will say its not a good trainer, but I found it simple to learn with. Its like alot of thing we do in life. Some people can pick it up quickly, while others struggle and take a bit longer to learn. The way I look at it is, if you want to give it a try, go for it. What most of us write on here are only our opinions. They can differ from person to person. Not everyone will agree on everything. If your interested in the little stang, go for it. Just take your time and be patient.
