The real purpose of them is to make sure that when you are in the air, the a arms have something to "stop" on. If you have them set wrong, it will put undue stress on your shocks and over time the plastic ends that hold the shock rod to the a arm or even the shock cap will fail. All that pressure has to go somewhere. That is why we put them in the arms in the first place. To protect the shocks...
