my zx-1r is here. it is amazingly built and looks a lot like the mugen. how do i set my downstops??

According to my experience:

The droop controls chassis roll and also the way the buggy jumps. When the track is bumpy or with big jumps, you might want the susp arms to drop more (more droop) when lifting up the chassis. Vice versa for flat surfaces. This is the same for on road cars.

There is a more important factor for buggies, droop also effects the way the buggy jumps. When viewed from the side, with chassis in the air, if front wheels drop more than rear wheels. The buggy will lift off the jump head up. If rear wheels drop more than front wheels, it will lift off head down.

If there are no special jumps, I usually set front and rear wheels drop level with chassis lift off.

The real purpose of them is to make sure that when you are in the air, the a arms have something to "stop" on. If you have them set wrong, it will put undue stress on your shocks and over time the plastic ends that hold the shock rod to the a arm or even the shock cap will fail. All that pressure has to go somewhere. That is why we put them in the arms in the first place. To protect the shocks...

That is of course if I am understanding what you are saying.... the little grub screws in the a arms that hit the chassis?

It sounds like the other poster is discussing something else.
