A heat gun is my preferred way of doing this, as it is much quicker and results in a better final result, since you end up heating a larger area at once.

I use a covering mitt as well, to help make sure that the covering adheres properly as it cools.

But seams are a big problem with heat guns.... so I try to first go over the seams with an iron, then work on the big areas with the heat gun.
