10% gives cooler running temps and better fuel mileage, and is less expensive. There is nominal power loss.

Most engines seem to require 18% oil, the type is totally up to you to choose. I like a castor/synthetic blend to break in an engine, and maybe switch to fully synthetic after a few tanks/gallon.
