When I rebuilt my mojo I took off the counterbalances on the elevators. I broke the full sized ones 2 or 3 times. When I had to do a rebuild I just built the elevators straight. I havent noticed any difference in flight. The plans have a optional setup for smaller counterbalances. At the very least I would go with those.
