First, we ask that you bear in mind the version of RealFlight you are using was NOT developed for running under Windows XP, only the earlier versions of Windows. As such, we cannot provide any specific guarantees that it will work under XP. The software developers have created a product update for running Classic under XP that has been very successful for the vast majority of those who are using it. Here is the link you need to access the latest product update for RealFlight Classic:
http://www2.realflight.com/rfserial.html
You will need your RealFlight Classic serial number. Please enter this serial number into the box and click on Continue. If you have already registered you will be able to just click on the button for product updates from here. Once you are directed to the site, you can find the latest version of the product update for RealFlight Classic (look for the version 1.20.216 4.8MB). Download the file to your computer and from there you can install the update into RealFlight. It would be a good idea to save this update file to a disc (Zip Disc, CD-RW, etc.) so you can save it for the future should you need it. If your e-mail provider will not allow you to access a hyperlink from your e-mail account, then you will need to cut and paste the URL from this message into your browser.
After you update your version of RealFlight you may need to change your controller in your Windows Control Panel. Please click on Start, go to Settings and click on Control Panel. If you are in classic mode please click on Game Controllers. If you are in catagory mode, please switch to classic mode and then click on Game Controllers. Please remove all controllers from this box. After you have removed all controllers, click on Add and scroll down until you find RealFlight Controller_W2K and click on it then add it to your Game controllers by clicking OK. You should see RealFlight Controller_W2K Status OK. Exit the Game controllers and the Windows Control Panel. Start your RealFlight. At this point you may still get errors about the joystick, just click ok on them. If this is the only error it will let you go on.
If you have RealFlight Classic or Deluxe:
Please go to Simulator settings after you click OK on your Tip of the Day. Once you are there click on the Controller tab. At the top you will see Controller Type. Please change this to RealFlight Controller_W2K then click on calibrate. After this you should not receive joystick errors when opening the program.
If you have RealFlight G2:
Please click on Options the Controller Calibration and change your Controller type to RealFlight Controller_W2K. After you do this, please calibrate your controller.
