RE: HEART ATTACK:WARNING SIGNS
Unfortunately I have too much experience with this kind of stuff after having my first one shortly after turning 46. That day I just wasn't feeling good but I had just gotten over a nasty flu bug so I thought that it was just some after-effects. Heading down to my in-laws house I just couldn't get comfortable, too hot, too cold and feeling like crap.. We were loading up some of the last things from their move to a new house and was taking a truckload of stuff to my place. Going in the house I told my wife that I wasn't feeling well and was going to lay down for a few minutes on the couch. BIG mistake as it felt like someone big had sat on my chest. I had her call my doctor's office who told her to call 911. The police, fire dept. and the meat wagon all showed up and hauled my butt to ER. I didn't know what was going on as I'd never had one before. My pain ran up the center of my chest from my throat to my navel and the inside of my right elbow. Stent installed and 8 weeks off from work.
Second one I just about bought the farm.
We had just completed a big neighborhood fix-up project and again, feeling like junk again, light-headed, etc. and had what felt like a backache for a good week. Thinking that it was from over-doing things or sleeping in a bad position I poo-pooed it off. That night the pain got a lot worse then included the feeling that somebody smacked me across the chest with a baseball bat and in the armpits. More stents.
A few other small ones after that until my last big one which came as a real surprise. I felt absolutely great that day, better than I had in a long time. While at work we were shutting the machine down for the night and was at the back doing a little work. I bent over and as soon as I did I felt some pain and the "Oh ****", I knew what was happening. I told my partner on the machine that I was having a heart attack and got some aspirin as fast as I could. I called Security and told them I need to get to the hospital ASAP. After getting there and getting some treatment I found out the next morning that I was to become a member of the Zipper Club For Men, yup, quad bypass time. I'm also equipped with what I call my breast implant, an ICD located in my upper left chest. It's about the size of a small tape measure.
Guys and gals, if you ever have that weird feeling that something isn't right, it's better to be safe and wrong than dead. I've already seen two friends of mine die because they blew it off as indigestion or just a flu-like thing.
Bob, you were both smart and lucky as what you had was a mild form of what's known as either the Widow-maker or the Squeezer.
