[X(] ,my point being with this post is not all heart attack/problems start with a pain in the chest, so don't fool yourself..... [8D] and for those wanting my boats ...... lol not just yet... lol......

Good to hear you came out ok. Seems heart attacks and strokes are both easily dismissed at first......usually till it's too late.

Unfortunately I have too much experience with this kind of stuff after having my first one shortly after turning 46. That day I just wasn't feeling good but I had just gotten over a nasty flu bug so I thought that it was just some after-effects. Heading down to my in-laws house I just couldn't get comfortable, too hot, too cold and feeling like crap.. We were loading up some of the last things from their move to a new house and was taking a truckload of stuff to my place. Going in the house I told my wife that I wasn't feeling well and was going to lay down for a few minutes on the couch. BIG mistake as it felt like someone big had sat on my chest. I had her call my doctor's office who told her to call 911. The police, fire dept. and the meat wagon all showed up and hauled my butt to ER. I didn't know what was going on as I'd never had one before. My pain ran up the center of my chest from my throat to my navel and the inside of my right elbow. Stent installed and 8 weeks off from work.
Second one I just about bought the farm.
We had just completed a big neighborhood fix-up project and again, feeling like junk again, light-headed, etc. and had what felt like a backache for a good week. Thinking that it was from over-doing things or sleeping in a bad position I poo-pooed it off. That night the pain got a lot worse then included the feeling that somebody smacked me across the chest with a baseball bat and in the armpits. More stents.
A few other small ones after that until my last big one which came as a real surprise. I felt absolutely great that day, better than I had in a long time. While at work we were shutting the machine down for the night and was at the back doing a little work. I bent over and as soon as I did I felt some pain and the "Oh ****", I knew what was happening. I told my partner on the machine that I was having a heart attack and got some aspirin as fast as I could. I called Security and told them I need to get to the hospital ASAP. After getting there and getting some treatment I found out the next morning that I was to become a member of the Zipper Club For Men, yup, quad bypass time. I'm also equipped with what I call my breast implant, an ICD located in my upper left chest. It's about the size of a small tape measure.

Guys and gals, if you ever have that weird feeling that something isn't right, it's better to be safe and wrong than dead. I've already seen two friends of mine die because they blew it off as indigestion or just a flu-like thing.

Bob, you were both smart and lucky as what you had was a mild form of what's known as either the Widow-maker or the Squeezer.

WOW.... [X(] , so i guess even though you switched to gas,you still have a bit of nitro left for your heart....40%??? [:-] , lol, yeah Ron, i had 99% blockage and the attending doc did refer to it as "the widowmaker".... and that I WAS heela lucky ... [:-] like you said, not all the symptoms are the same, and for us geezers, as well as the spring chickens, any concerns and issues should NOT be taken lightly..... [8D]

Age doesn't matter as I saw one 26 year-old woman in the ER who was on here 3rd one but she also had a little problem with the pipe.
Mine were from living the good life, cholersterol levels through the roof (over 400!) and being a smoker doesn't help at all.
TV doesn't help matters as they show someone grabbing their chest or left shoulder so people assume that the pain isn't in those spots it couldn't be a myocardial infarction, the technical name for a heart attack. The blockage usually occurs in a blood vessel around the outside of your heart.

Yeah, I've joked also that not only are my boats nitro powered but I am also. The Nitro-Quick pills are in my pocket but also take a time-released pill every day and you MUST take them daily. I found that out also I as didn't for about 2 weeks and ended up back in ER again with guess what? Yup, another one. I've got to go down and pick up my refill here in a few. You can't go cold turkey on them, you have to be weaned off slowly if you ever get to quit taking them.
I'm living on Toprol XL and Isosorbide Mononitrate aka, Ismo.

Guys, I've been an EMT for 8 years, and have an ex-wife who was a physician. Together we have had several calls with young people (usually under 30) with heart attack symptoms. Family history has TONS to do with it. People that eat healthy having high cholesterol readings is not uncommon. It's also in the genes. I personally frequent the Hardee's, Pizza Huts, steak sub joints....my readings are very low, but the family dosen't have a history either.

Scott, high cholesterol numbers are high on both sides of the family which really made me high-risk.
Other problems down the road from heart attacks and the trauma don't help matters. Type II Diabetes and an anxiety disorder are two of the ones that I picked up. The anxiety disorder was the one that I really didn't and don't like as the symptoms of those are almost identical to having a heart attack. I spent 6 trips to the ER having those attacks and going through tests like the Cardio-lite stress tests several times and stays from 4 hours to overnight stays to find out that my heart was fine then tossed out. Needless to say, I got a little pissed off at the attending Cardiologist my last trip in and gave him an butt chewing. I told him, "OK, so it's not a heart attack, then what is it?" He sent me to my family doc to have him tell me what was up. A .5 mg Xanax daily took care of that little problem.

Just saw this thread... Mopartybob, sorry to hear about your recent experience. Glad to hear your doing better. Keep in good health.
I remember watching on TV that heart attacks sneak up on you and are therefor sometimes very hard to predict. It's like a slow building clog.

Heart attacks are strange things. They either hit you like a ton of bricks or sneak up over a time span. Thinking back after my first and second ones those were slow in coming up on me. The first one I thuoght about it later and had a smaller one a week or so before. The second was what appeared at first as by back being out of whack but both were warning signs that you'd normally put off as something else.
I'm just guessing here but Bob might have thought of his as a backache as it will be between the shoulder blades in the center of your back but almost directly behind the heart.
If any of the symptoms start, try to stay calm. In the ambulance you could feel uncomftable laying flat on the gurney, I felt better laying at a 45 degree angle. Take at least one 375mg aspirin as aspirin is a blood thinner
