Tried it today with a 72mHz Futaba, and no 90 degree deflection at power up...

I need to try it with a 2.4gHz Futaba.

Is is possible that your 2.4 is momentarily reverting to the fail-safe settings causing the wild servo swings? ( Just a thought... ).
