Default RE: DL-50 engine

ORIGINAL: RadarController

Ran about half gallon fuel through her. Ground idle is about 2100 smooth. 1/4 to 1/2 stick during take off coughs and sputters. During flying as well. Full throttle flying engine sounds good. Just 1/4 to 3/4 throttle it's not smooth. Stock settings it stayed running. So far I've leaned out the Low and High 1/8 turn. Can anyone help me out here. I want to get it right. Running 32:1 Lawnboy. Thanx.
Sounds like your idle is soaking rich.

1. Run engine hot;
2. Adjust HS needle for max rpm, back off 100-200rpm or open HS 1/16;
3. Close LS 1/16 at a time until engine starts surging increasing rpm. Open LS 1/8;
4. Repeat step 1-3 at least once;

If the engine then still sputters during flight, be sure there's a hole in the firewall for the carb to vent properly. And you can put a piece tubing on the carb's vent and run a line into the fuselage. That will smoothen the mid range out further.
