Default Carb recommendation for old K/B engine

I have a K/B engine, at least thats what is says on one side of the case. On the other side is just the number 3.5 in a circle. I did some searching and the closest thing I could find was the carb on the HB .25 engine. In fact, the two carbs look exactly alike.

As Paul Harvey would say, " And now.....the rest of the story." This engine is in a scratch built car that a good friend had built some years ago (I estimate 15). He was an engineer, so there were obvious flaws. I don't like the carb setup; running of the fuel line and throttle control linkage. So, I guess my question is this: Can I put a slide carb on this engine? It would sure make life easier.

I need to get a new carb anyway since the idle set screw on this one is stripped out.

Thanks,
Mike

Edit: The poke at engineers was just for fun. I'm an Electronics Tech/Field Engineer, so the jib was a respectful one.
