You do not have to use a Futaba PCM receiver with digital servo's, but make sure the digital servo's are Futaba's. Your problem was probably the Hitec digitals.

If you are going to use the 401 gyro, then do yourself a favor and get the 9253 digital servo for it as well. The combo is the best value in gyro technology for the price, period!

That combo will work through 60 size heli's and you will not have to upgrade later on. The difference you will feel in the first 5 seconds of a hover.
