Default Does GY401 require digital servo?

I'm considering buying a Futaba GY401 gyro for my Raptor 30. My current setup uses analog servos with a PPM receiver. I don't want to change all the servos out for digitals and buy a PCM Rx if I don't have to. Can I use the 401 with a fast coreless analog servo like the Hitec HS925 (0.1sec/83 oz)? Thanks, Mike.

Default Does GY401 require digital servo?

Jason - thanks, that does help. I had problems on a plane that used all digital servos (hitec 5925s) and a Futaba PPM receiver. The range check was terrible and it glitched severely and randomly. Many people then told me you must use a PPM Rx with digital servos. So, I bought a PCM Rx and sure enough it fixed the problem. A local guy told me he tried a single digital T/R servo in his heli with non-PCM Rx and it caused glitching. I would rather use the 9253 if it really won't cause glitching problems. Mike.

Default 401

I run the 401 on 3 different birds. I have a Fury that is all digital and PCM, a Freya with PCM rcvr, analog servos with digital 9250 on tail and a Scaedu with PPM, analog except 9250 on tail. I have no problems with the 401. I think your problem was most likely in the receiver or antennae routing. You will love the 401. Good luck.

Default digital servo's

You do not have to use a Futaba PCM receiver with digital servo's, but make sure the digital servo's are Futaba's. Your problem was probably the Hitec digitals.

If you are going to use the 401 gyro, then do yourself a favor and get the 9253 digital servo for it as well. The combo is the best value in gyro technology for the price, period!

That combo will work through 60 size heli's and you will not have to upgrade later on. The difference you will feel in the first 5 seconds of a hover.

I use a 401 gyro with a 9253 and it is the best thing that has happened to my Raptor 50!! I don't have to use the left stick at all!! It is very stable and very reliable. It certainly is the best value for your dollar.

Also, whether you go with the digital servo or not, make sure you set the gyro accordingly!!! There is a switch on the gyro for it to use a digital servo. So, you don't neccesarily have to use a DS with the 401, but it is definitely recommended.

Default GY401

Thanks for all the replies guys. Based on what you're saying, I'll buy the GY401 / 9253 combo. Thanks! Mike.
