I'm just thankful that full blown tornadoes seem to be a rarity here
Ha!
When I was five or six I lived at Wynnum-Manly, along the top of Gordon Parade. We had a BIG thunderstorm come along and lo, it did pull a mighty twister out of the bowels of Moreton Bay.
The most terrifying storm I have ever experienced, ever. The wind sounded like women screaming, the sky went black and trees fell, houses fell and the sky fell.
Our own house rocked back and forth on it's stumps so badly we couldn't stand, and at it's peak it pulled an empty house two blocks away off it's stumps and then slammed it back down with such force the stumps were sticking out of the roof.

The press called it a thunderstorm and missed the fact it was an effing twister, everyone there who saw it wrote out their wills. No one was injured after it cleared. It's landborne visit was only brief and then it went back out to sea. Whenever I hear of the tornado season in the USA I shudder. Terrifying beyond measure. Anyone who has been through one has my complete heartfelt sympathy.

EDIT:

Hey hey! Colin, pictures 103 to 106 on the link you provided are right near my place, this is the road the trees were swept down by the floodwater. The SES and council are here as I type clearing it all away.
