First major crash Axe CPv3
After flying in my yard for a while and countless hours on the simulator I decided to go somewhere where I had some room. The first battery I hovered for a bit to get relaxed then started flying around. This heli will go faster than what I expected but I like it. Made large circles slow and fast and practiced stopping the heli and landing(still had training gear on). To my surprise I flew pretty good. There was a little wind with a gust here and there but nothing bad. Ran down the first battery then when I got ready to use my other battery I hovered for a second and then started flying around. I kept getting faster and faster and the wind was picking up but not affecting me. Flew probably 3/4 of the pack down and it happened. I got over confident and made a mistake I knew not to do. With a lot of speed and the wind getting harder I went into a turn when I did the tail spun on me and fast. I I was givving full rudder to correct it and when it caught up it spun the other way. It was like the tail had no control. Well while trying to fight the tail somehow the pavement snuck up on me. The heli hit hard pieces going everywhere. As soon as it hit I cut off the idle up and went to check the damage. Even though I crashed I was very proud of myself and the way I flew it just got a little over confident and tried to fly it like a T-Rex on a simulator. I think if I had a HH gyro on it it wouldnt have happened. The damage includes grips, landing gear, frame, tail rotor blade, main blades, flybar and one paddle, slide block, and maybe the main shaft havent checked it yet. Got most of the parts but what bothered me was I think it got my battery. One cell is slighty pushed up against another one and the cover around the whole battery is torn a little. It was a friends battery so I gave him mine and am probably going to chunk this one to be safe but that adds nearly 30 bucks to the damage. Anyways I was not upset for the fact that I realized if Im a little more careful I can fly this thing pretty good and when it hit and all those pieces of the blade went everywhere and it did a chickendance(I think thats what they call it) it was hilarious. Not really I guess but I had more fun in those two flights than I have in all the ones before with my older Axe. I have always loved planes but I think helis are going to become part of my hobby now for good. Wish me luck. And does it sound like a HH gyro would have prevented the tail from spinning on me it seems when I put a lot of stress on the heli it lost head speed and made the tail spin? Add center hub to the list.
