First major crash Axe CPv3

After flying in my yard for a while and countless hours on the simulator I decided to go somewhere where I had some room. The first battery I hovered for a bit to get relaxed then started flying around. This heli will go faster than what I expected but I like it. Made large circles slow and fast and practiced stopping the heli and landing(still had training gear on). To my surprise I flew pretty good. There was a little wind with a gust here and there but nothing bad. Ran down the first battery then when I got ready to use my other battery I hovered for a second and then started flying around. I kept getting faster and faster and the wind was picking up but not affecting me. Flew probably 3/4 of the pack down and it happened. I got over confident and made a mistake I knew not to do. With a lot of speed and the wind getting harder I went into a turn when I did the tail spun on me and fast. I I was givving full rudder to correct it and when it caught up it spun the other way. It was like the tail had no control. Well while trying to fight the tail somehow the pavement snuck up on me. The heli hit hard pieces going everywhere. As soon as it hit I cut off the idle up and went to check the damage. Even though I crashed I was very proud of myself and the way I flew it just got a little over confident and tried to fly it like a T-Rex on a simulator. I think if I had a HH gyro on it it wouldnt have happened. The damage includes grips, landing gear, frame, tail rotor blade, main blades, flybar and one paddle, slide block, and maybe the main shaft havent checked it yet. Got most of the parts but what bothered me was I think it got my battery. One cell is slighty pushed up against another one and the cover around the whole battery is torn a little. It was a friends battery so I gave him mine and am probably going to chunk this one to be safe but that adds nearly 30 bucks to the damage. Anyways I was not upset for the fact that I realized if Im a little more careful I can fly this thing pretty good and when it hit and all those pieces of the blade went everywhere and it did a chickendance(I think thats what they call it) it was hilarious. Not really I guess but I had more fun in those two flights than I have in all the ones before with my older Axe. I have always loved planes but I think helis are going to become part of my hobby now for good. Wish me luck. And does it sound like a HH gyro would have prevented the tail from spinning on me it seems when I put a lot of stress on the heli it lost head speed and made the tail spin? Add center hub to the list.

Congrats. Now you know what the addiction is all about
. I had a similar experience a couple of weeks ago with my B400. The heli did just exactly what I told it to do, the problem was I told it to something stupid. My bad, lol lesson learned. In your circumstance, I think a HH gyro would have helped, but not prevented the situation. However it may have been able to help you not get into that predicament in the first place. If you are short on funding, xmhobbies sells hh gyro that is a clone of futaba's 401 for a ridiculously low price. I am considering it for my frankenaxe. One of pilots over on the CX thread is using it on his CX Black Angel and says its every bit as good as futaba. Good luck with the repairs and welcome

Well, good you got that out of the way early
. Now you don't have to worry about crashing! Sorry about the carnage, though; that sounds like a kicker of a wreck.
As you describe it, a better gyro likely wouldn't have made a difference. A motor-tail heli has a limited amount of tail power to start with, and if you lay into collective hard enough to bog the motor down, most of them will kick the tail that way. You're welcome to spend a lot of time/money on modding the heli, of course, but maybe an economical gyro upgrade... that's about as far as I'd think to go with that. If you're like most that manage to fly out an entire pack, then it won't be your last heli!
Take it a little easier for a while, be smoother on the collective, and you probably won't have too many problems.

I was thinking about just putting the gyro helimax has out on it since its pretty cheap but other than that I will save my money and go for a bigger heli. It was just one of those things I knew not to do but didnt think about it until after I had already done it. I have to watch my budget but Im glad I found the crash rather entertaining even though it sucks I gotta spend money. Next time Ill just keep my speed down and just fly around since I know for sure now that if I do that what happens. Will a good heli with a belt driven tail do that? Something like a t-rex 450. The only thing is Im trying to save for a 50cc plane and a heli at the same time (why cant I just win the lottery). Although the plane will probably come first the heli is right on its heels. Whats a good 450 size heli other than say a t-rex and maybe slightly cheaper? And no this wont be my last heli becuase I love flying planes but theres a different feeling that comes with flying a heli. It may be the fact that only about one person I fly planes with flies helis so it kind of brings out the erge to be able to say look what I can do lol.

Ha, a lot of us fly different kinds of flying machines (I have more planks than helis, but only barely now!
There are a lot of good 325mm (450 size) helis out there, not just the TRex. My current favorite in that size is the Mini Titan (TT E325), because it's inexpensive, very smooth and strongly aerobatic. You probably have the radio gear already, but if not, the Blade 400 RTF (with Spektrum TX) is pretty popular, too.
No, when set up with decent equipment for hard aerobatics, you have to beat a heli with a collective-pitch tail pretty badly to blow out the tail, if you even can. That depends on how you set it up, of course- if you dial down the gyro to fly smoother pattern or F3C style, then it changes things.

sorry to hear about your crash.its happens.ive been flying maybe a month in a half and ive had quite a few.but i had to very good flights around the park, one landing was a little rough, the other was a crash, ive have the g4 simulator,i think its great.its not exactly like flying the real thing.but still you can learn.i have a axecpv3 and an axecp,im hooked on the helis.i hope to get better.i need to get better at nose and hovering.thats my main issue.but anyway good luck to you and be proud of your flight.
