You explained it right, so you understood Jeff. You could also put a deans on the BEC and use a Parallel Y-adaptor from the battery to the ESC and BEC.

You don't have to cut the red wire on the throttle pins. I ususally just pull it from the connector and tape it back on the wires just in case I wanted to use the BEC in the ESC sometime in the future.
