Outrunners are simpler! They are available with low Kv, so they can swing large props without the need of a gearbox. Yes, Lipo packs are better when the individual cells are "balanced" - balancers are available...some chargers have 'em built in. Futaba has good quality stuff. Can't comment on GP servos.
