Default moving to electrics

hi, i fly 40-60 size airplanes for years now but i wanted to get into electric but everything seems so confusing
i was thinking of buying something like herr's pitts special or P51 mustang... or any other 1/2A kit.
at first i was thinking of putting a standard gas engine on it like the ap 0.9 hornet.. but now i'm considering to get myself electric equipment..
i don't even have micro servos yet
so i need everything.. micro servos micro reciever battery and everything
and ofcourse motor ESC etc...
i was wondering what gear do you recommend for me?
i was looking at the electrifly brushless power systems.. especially at the E-performance system... which is rather expensive..
i don't even know which is better for me.. brushed or brushless...
anyhow i was wondering if this power system is good for my needs.. and about the radio gear... should i put more money and buy the expensive futaba receiver and servos or the great planes radio equipment should to the trick just fine?
what about the battery? is the battery used for the esc and motor also used for the rest of the servos? or do i need another battery?
i want the radio equipment that i choose to support both the electric gear and also a gas engine like the ap hornet?
i know its alot of question... but i'm very confused so i would really appreciate your help on this..
thanks in advance
amit

If you are in this for the long term, get the best radio gear you can afford - if you get 2.4gHz (Spectrum) with a bunch of channels (?6-8?) you may never another Tx/Rx.

For 1/2A size planes [if they needed a .09 IC motor], you probably need a 200W brushless motor and appropriate 20A capable 3s Lipo pack. Don't even think about brushed motors, NiMh packs etc! In electric RC aircraft the ESC (Electronic Speed Control) has a built in Battery Eliminator Circuit (BEC) - the flight pack which powers the motor also powers the RX and servos [until you get to an excessive voltage (4s or more) or excessive number of servos (4 or more) - then you need a simple stand alone UBEC which does the job - no separate RX pack needed]. Micro servos - say 8g or less, are cheap and easily obtained.

The motor specs to look for in the 200W range will include the all important Kv - your choice will depend on the size of prop your chosen aircraft will require. Give us a link to the possible aircraft and we can find the right motor!

thanks!
i have a few more questions... which should i choose? inrunner or outrunner? i don't really understand the difference... i believe outrunner gives you more torque and it doesn't need a gearbox.
whats the difference between lithium polymer and balanaced LIPO? what does it mean that its balanced?
and what else do i need? charger? balancer? what do i use a balancer for?
i also wanted to know what you guys feel about a receiver and servos made by great planes instead of futaba...
and will i be able to use the lipo battery pack in a gas engine setup? meaning 4 servos...?
thanks again

Most use outrunners. I do, and favor EFlite and AXI models. There are other, cheaper ones, but I have none of them. Lipos and balanced lipos. Lipos should be balanced, that is each cell should have the same voltage. This can be done with the charger itself, I like the FMA Cellpros, or a stand alone balancer like the Astro Blinkie. This is to prevent the cells from having a cell run wild and destroy the pack, usually in a firey manner.
I have read that the Great Planes servos and RX's are made by Futaba and the ones by Hobbico are made by Hitec.
I'm not sure what you mean by using the Lipo pack in a gas engine setup.
Can't help with the B-8 micro servos. I pretty much use only Hitec with some Airtronics.

Outrunners are simpler! They are available with low Kv, so they can swing large props without the need of a gearbox. Yes, Lipo packs are better when the individual cells are "balanced" - balancers are available...some chargers have 'em built in. Futaba has good quality stuff. Can't comment on GP servos.

At the top of this forum is a sticky discussion which is an e-book on electric flight. I suggest you start there. Then you will be better prepared to move to electric flight.
