One way to color that is to use RIT clothing die. It comes out pretty neat provided the material (Plastic??) will take the tinting. There is a thread somewhere on RCU that discusses this method. It tints it and looks very realistic. Just a suggestion, more likely to late for the OP's application, but perhaps worthwhile mentioning.
