We're both on the same track Jeff.

Here's a picture. I would add balsa strips to the front of the trailing edge in between each rib. In the pic I put 1/4" x 1/4", but if you can fit 5/16, or 3/8" better yet. Be sure to get a good bond to the ribs.

Then cut off the Trailing edge leaving about 1/8" of the original tapered stock. Bevel the LE of the aileron, and add hinges.
