I am not familliar with the construction of the trailing edge of a senior kadet, but if you can describe it for me, I'll be happy to draw something up for you.
Is the TE a piece of tapered stock? If so, how wide is it?
Give me a good description, and I'll give you a good solution.

thanks for the help, the stock is tapered and 1 and 1/2" wide, leading edge 1/2" thick and trailing edge is1/8" thick. about 36" wide ea. side, that`s from center of wing to end, at trailing edge
ps: i can email you a picture if needed. thank again Mike B Minn Flyer

As mike mentioned, you need to describe the construction of the wing.
Guessing that it is basic rib construction, I would suggest you start by deciding how long you want the aileron to be. Then decide where you want it located (at the end, in the middle or wherever) Then when you have this all figured out, if the wing already has a solid trailing edge from root to tip, you will need to cut the decided area out. When you cut this area out, you need to make sure that there is enough wood to put hinges into. If there is not, I would cut out another 3/8" into the wing and then glue in a piece of 3/8 balsa stock the entire spane of the aileron. Cap off the ends of the section you have cut out and you should be ready for the aileron installation.
Here is a picture of a HERR STAR CRUISER wing that I put ailerons on. This kit is designed without, but I did exactly what I described above. You can see that it is a fairly small aileron and for this reason, I moved it toward the outside edge, but not all the way. The only reason I put the ailerons on this plane was to have better control for landings.

here is the bottom side showing the control linkage set up
One servo to control both ailerons. Linkage from the servo to the aileron is nyrod that has been routed through the inside of the wing and exits just before the aileron

We're both on the same track Jeff.
Here's a picture. I would add balsa strips to the front of the trailing edge in between each rib. In the pic I put 1/4" x 1/4", but if you can fit 5/16, or 3/8" better yet. Be sure to get a good bond to the ribs.
Then cut off the Trailing edge leaving about 1/8" of the original tapered stock. Bevel the LE of the aileron, and add hinges.

On my Senior Kadet I just cut off the back of the stock trailing edge which left 5/8" remaining. The thickness was then about 1/4" at the back edge. Next I used standard 1/4"x2" tapered stock to make full width ailerons. CA type easy hinges were used and dual servos. The tip of the aileron stock gets angled to match the wingtip shape.
This is about the easiest way to make ailerons for this wing. By the way, I've been flying this plane for about 2 years now and it still remains one of my favorites.

I had a old sig Kadet JR that I added ailerons to. Not as bad as thought. Got aileron kit at Tower Hobbies. Cut hole in bottom w/dremmel wheel. epoxy in some servo rails. Cut off trailing edge. Put hardwood strip in back then hinged to aileron stock. Works great. Good luck. See my member picks.

yes sir derailed, and i always need help
. i like the looks of the herr cherokee, sharp plane ,are they hard to find. i think i`am gonig to build the thunderbug as my next project,
but i hear the plans are not so good, and you might as well throw them away.
thanks for pictures and info GeraldO. excellent pictures
, by the way. i was going to use the T E that i cut off for the aileron, which is about an inch and three-eights wide, i reinforced between each rib with half inch by one quarter inch stock, then made cut at very end of the ribs, do you think 1+3/8" is enought aileron for that wing. or should i use 2" stock.
how about a picture of the whole plane

I think the 2" ailerons are just right. I couldn't tell you if 1-3/8" will be too small, but I can tell you that I fly mine with maximum aileron deflections. I also had reduced the dihedral by 50%.
Here's a picture of me standing behind the Senior. This was taken last month at SEFF (Southeast Electric Flight Festival). The Senior is electric powered as are all my other planes in the photo.

Grate looking Senior, all of the planes in fact. The plans called for 6" dihedral, i went with 2" dihedral, 1" each side, i`am anxious to see how it handles. thanks for everone`s help and input.
