The screen hasn't been cleaned since I bought the engine almost two years ago. The point for mentioning this is the rest of you should clean that screen frequently since I've had the problem on other engines. There are two filters in my fuel can, but fine particles still accumulate over time.

Here are a couple of things I do so the carb screen cleaning never occurs. I use a ceramic filter for the clunk in my fuel jug, along with a paper filter on the fill line to the plane. I also use a Walbro cloth clunk, or similar, it does two things, first it does not let anything pass, and also will suck every drop from the fuel tank. Last but not least and believe it or not, you can pick up dust, grass, etc through the vent line, so you can put a filter on that too.
I know, I know, it is over kill, but you will never have foreign debre in your carb
This is true. I hardly ever have to clean my fill line filter or my carb screens... but the little sullivan filter on my vent line gets pretty nasty after about 8 months... One of our fields is in a flood zone... during the summer, very little grass and lots of dirt.
BTW, we don't have the fancy hardtop runways. Heck, some of our roads are still dirt and gravel.
LOL!
