At 6th scale you may want to look at bicycle chain and sprocket for the track movement. This option would be very strong, cheap and assured tracking.

Adding the pads may involve spot welding plates to the chain or perhaps a bolted solution could be fashioned. At least the width of track could be anything you wish.
