Actually the "slide" feature works perfectly well on mine. When the tail wheel is retracted, the connection to the rudder servo basically slides back and forth and puts no stress whatsoever on either the tail wheel or the servo.

Kind of a dated tecnology, but works perfectly well if set up correctly.

But, if you have extra channels, then it can't hurt to run it seperately (unless you keep forgetting to activate the servo on landing).
