Like wise, I have shortened the antenna to approximate correct length on several of mine with no discernable adverse affect on control, but mine rarely get more than 50 ft away. I have to agree with Panther F on keeping the antenna inside. On suggestion, I have done this with 4 of mine, keeping away from the motors and it eliminates the eye injury possibility. I like the idea of coiling around a plastic tube. Only external antenna on those is a a soft, very flexible one to fit the model.
