I was some what having the same issue with my GT. It would rev up then die. Do the tires spin when it revs up? Mine did not and I found the fly wheel was lose. If you have the engine running rich when it revs then it will spit out fuel. I ended up buying a new fly wheel and collet and never had the issue again.
