em - chashint - you takin' a shot at MasterAlex with that "speedy" comment?

I've used the "panel" approach on several planes. I cut the pieces on glass. I assemble and seal them on glass using a flat-based trim iron on low heat - just enough to activate the ultracote's adhesive. I then use a covering iron at 220 degrees to ensure full adhesion. Let the covering cool and it peals off the glass very easily. Don't let it cool - you'll find out that you need to let it cool. [&o].

Only downside with paneling ultracote is that the covering is not totally opaque and the seams show through. I've used true red, bright yellow and orange. The seam shows through irrespective of the top color. They aren't truly opaque. Maybe Monokote is better in this respect.

I just finished a 4Star60 covering using a base / trim approach using ultracote white, pearl blue, true red and bright yellow. The resulting job shows no seams. Cost? 4 hours to lay 4 pieces of trim over the wings. Time included lancing many bubbles. Finished covering job has no visible bubbles.

pic 1: white base with blue/yellow/red trim applied on the plane
pic 2: SSE tail - panel assem - all pieces cut-n-assembled into a panel on glass

Panel assembly is one heck of a lot easier!!!!!!!! It's lighter. Less expensive (less material used). Downside are visible seams.

(edited) In retrospect I would create a blue/white/yellow/white panel on the 4Star60's wing top. Then add the red bolt as a piece of trim. Time savings of 4 hours.
