RE: Hog Bipe Build Thread
I built one of the first kits back in 1993 (?) I forget the year. It was one of the first laser cut kits and boy was I spoiled! I put an OS 80H two stroke in it that probably has the same power as a Saito 91, maybe a 100 I don't know. At that time the engine was mounted upright. After flying it for a few years I crashed it due to a bad receiver that had killed another plane (slow learner). In the process it crunched the nose, bent the cabanes, and damaged the OS. No other damage going straight down at idle from about 40 feet! Anyway, because I had it, I put an HP61 in it sideways with a Pitts muffler and built the fiberglass cowl you see in the picture. It wasn't enough power so I hung the model up for another 5-6 years. Over the last few weeks I found the parts for the OS and swapped out the engines. I had to rework the cowl some and then paint it. I did two flights on it today with sucess, that is I brought it home in one piece but boy am I rusty. Here it is as it looks today. Original Coverite and Randolph dope, painted on trim. It has a checkerboard bottom on the lower wing. Fun plane and a really fun build.
