What you join depends on what you plan on flying. If you join under the Park Pilot Program (PPP) you are limited to planes that weigh under 2 pounds and cannot exceed 60 mph. And as it say, electric only. No internal combustion. This membership is $29/year and has limitations to the amount of insurance that is provided.

If you plan on flying planes bigger than this that are not electric, or are bigger than those in the PPP, then you must join as an open member. This is $58/year.

If you are under the PPP and you fly planes outside of their restrictions the insurance will not cover you in the event that you cause damage to property or harm to another person. In addition, not all clubs will allow you to fly with a PPP membership.
