RE: buddy box + expo
I've used a bunch of different buddy boxes and TX's teaching students.
For the most part the buddy box really needs the same capabilities as the master TX being used to avoid problems.
I normally start each pre-training session making sure that the buddy box EXPO, TRIM, THROWS, SWITCHES, etc. all match the master.
I'll also hold each stick axis partially or fully deflected on both the master and the buddy box, then throw the trainer switch.
Under ideal conditions if you have both boxes with the axis held the same way, when you throw the switch the control surfaces & throttle SHOULD NOT change at all.
Any change points to a mismatch between the two controllers.
And yes the Expo & settings DO NOT "transfer" between the two... only raw stick movements are communicated via the trainer cord.
If you've every used something like PPJOY this becomes obvious.
