Yeah, on the ground I always check out the trims, polarities, endpoints, etc., to make sure the main radio and buddy-box are the same. Then, if there's another experienced pilot at the field with you, take the plane up with him on the buddy-box first to try it out and adjust it, before you hand it to a newbie.
