Why not just grind out the horseshoe? Your mount will rotate some when the motor is running, not to mention the extra weight of the horseshoe. From what I've seen, it seems as though 6mm is the typical thickness for those, so you're adding a bunch of weight. I think you're overthinking and overcomplicating the problem.
