Bob, yes I did that on purpose and it seems to work good.

Chuck I don't run filters on my planes. I use a felt type filter on the pickup in my gas can as well as an inline filter on the filler hose going to the plane. So far I haven't had any problems with gunk building up in my carb screen. That's not saying it won't happen. But so far it has been working for me.
