I dont' think the ins is a big deal. I know many that flew without it. I had a friend that had a berkut built and flew it without ins. The canard came off. That was a lot of money down the drain, and one life. I was supposed to go get it when it was done in a few weeks after it crashed. that would have sucked bad.
