yes it uses crystals and should have one in it with the channel number on it. The radio has multiple model memory. SO you get a bunch of receivers with the same channel on it. To change plane you go into the settings and set it to the model your flying. I get these for new models. the pics I've gone through a couple screen, notice the name and model number change, that's your different set ups for different plane, I think I have 5 on here at the moment and 4-5 on my other radio.
