Arnaud - if all else fails, how about scanning the manual in and then using OCR followed by google or babel translation ? I forget what software I used for this, but I did this OCR method a few years ago for a fairly large manual. If you can get a German spell checker to run on the initial output of the OCR run, that could further improve the results.
