There are a lot of variables when doing a range check, and it sounds like you had the optimum conditions at the time.

It is always a good idea to do a few range checks, differnet days, different areas and different conditions, and then average these out as the best range for your equipment.

The R608FS range should be about the same as the other receivers you mentioned. It may not be a problem in the transmitter at all, just good conditions at the time. But it is of course best to do a series of range checks.
