Yes, it works well. My servo is mounted on its side. Slight complication is the top hinged elevator. I made it such that the middle of the horn is in line with the hinge-line. Otherwise its the lightest way I know. Another way I have heard but not tried is to use two servos as designed but share the extension wire for servo power, adding one more wire for signal, making for a total of four, saving a little weight.
