The best advice I can give you is to go to a flying club and ask if anyone is willing to sell a trainer.  some club members might be willing to sell trainers at a considerable savings.  Secondly you will find instructors who will tell you what they are comfortable training you on and also a radio setup that is buddy box compatible with what they are using
