Whats up guys. My name`s Jon and I`m new to this forum and fairly new to RC. I`ve had a 1/10th scale buggy for a while, but the planes look MUCH more interesting to me. (BTW, I would like to trade all of my equip. for my first plane, if anyone interested) Anyways, I`m looking to get a plane here soon. Just wanting some recommendations on a descent first flyer. I`m mainly shooting for a RTF, I`ve spent so much on my buggy lately, so I cant piece a kit together just yet. Also, whats some options on flight simulators for Windows Vista?? Thanks a lot guys!

I've put together a list of planes that make good trainers and second planes. All of them on the list are proven planes that are well suited for successfully letting students learn to fly, or advance to a second plane. Check out the list here

Looking for a trainer- what's available.

Hope this helps

Welcome aboard!
The moderators are correct about places for things... but being a newbie, everyone is that at some time or another. It's all good.
So, first plane ideas, huh? I am glad to hear of your conversion desire, from land to air, but saddened by your wishes to go RTF. That is the pace today I guess. Thing is though, if more pilots knew what their machine was made of, and for, engineering speaking, there would be less financial burden for them. Having built a plane, the pilot knows what can be done to correct problems... structural; mechanical and electrical.
Never the less, the options for models are numerous. Join a club, look around at what others are doing, that fits your style desire, ask questions.
FSOne, from Hangar 9, is a good sim for Vista... but don't let the sim regulate your habits, when real flight is concerned. They will hone hand-eye coordination, and get you familiar with a plane's function, especially when it's coming at you... but nothing takes the place of an instructor and the buddy box.
Keep your head up on a swivel.

Well, this being my first plane, is the only reason I`m wanting to go RTF. Once I get one, and figure out flying, then I`ll begin getting better parts. First one being an Airtronics RDS8000 probably. I`ve began to look around on here for instructors and I`ve found a couple in my general area, so I`ll try to contact them and see if I can go check em out one day. I appreciate the insight guys

Welcome JonNBR,
I purchased the H9 Alpha 40 RTF as my first trainer.
It is very forgiving and quite affordable.
One thing I did need to do was to buya secondSpektrum DX5e TX (one comes with the kit) and a buddy cord, because most of the TX at my field were Futaba TX's and the pilots were not real clear on how to setup using the two different TXs. So, to eliminate any of those probs. I bought the TX from RCU classifieds for like $50 and the cord was $10, and now I don't have to worry about people having the right cords and having to set up their TX to match mine.
It's worked out great. I'm close to soloing, just need to get my landings down...(buy extra props)...<BG>
Ask lots of questions, lots of helpful people here.
Good luck!

The best advice I can give you is to go to a flying club and ask if anyone is willing to sell a trainer. some club members might be willing to sell trainers at a considerable savings. Secondly you will find instructors who will tell you what they are comfortable training you on and also a radio setup that is buddy box compatible with what they are using

Get ready to sell your rc cars, they aren't nearly as much fun. I put all my stuff in the RCU marketplace to help fuel my airplane desires. I would avoid the little 3channel electrics and get you a good trainer set up that will be compatible at the club you go to. Check out the free FMS simulator (google it) and just use it. It will teach you the controls very well, and you won't waste your money on a sim that is more expensive because it is pretty. No sim replaces the real thing.

Welcome Jon!!
You can use the classified section for trading or saling you car equipment.
Visit a fying club, watch the models and make the first big decision: fuel or electric power.
There are lots a great information in the references given above.
You will enjoy flying models.
