It’s an original Model Tech Calypso. I did some trading with a customer who bought it years ago and brought it from <st1lace w:st="on">Mexico City</st1lace> when he moved to the states. It's only taken me 18 months to finish. Maiden flight was last Sunday.

<o></o>

There was a problem with interference on the Aileron channel so I had to relocate the lithium battery and the regulator. Problem solved. Flew it again Monday and today and I'm very happy over all. Plane flew very nose heavy so I've added 1 once of lead to the tail. CG given in the instructions was 125mm to 145mm and I’m currently at 135. I also had to add some rudder throw. Plane would not hold knife edge and was lacking rudder authority on the stall turns. There where no control throws given in the instruction so I set it up by the TLAR principle. (That Looks About Right) The roll rate and elevator throws feel good but I'm sure I will be adjusting them as I get better acquainted with the plane. It does have a bit of rudder coupling. It drops the nose and wing with rudder. I’ll have to use some mixes on this one.

Engine is an OS .61FX Vince (Crankpin) gave me. Thanks Vince. The engine runs great. Motor mounted at 8 o'clock so the exhaust is at 6 o'clock. I may go to an Ultra Thrust muffler later. No plans to use a Tuned Pipe.
<![if !supportLineBreakNewLine]>
<![endif]>

Specs:
APC 13 x 7 prop, great vertical
JR DS 821 all around. Dual servos on Aileron. Single on Rudder and Elevator.
MPI 2400 mah 2 cell lithium battery
Fromeco adjustable regulator set to 6 volts
Dubro 12 oz. tank
World Models fueller

B&D Retracts (retracts are locked in the down position for now.)

The model is covered with Ultra Kote. I will never use Monokote again. This is by far the best covering job I've done as well as the easiest. Monokote never went on this easy. Colors are Bright Yellow, Silver, Deep Blue and Carbon Fiber. My own trim scheme. Shows up very nicely in the air and there is no doubt about whether your looking at the top or bottom.

Now that the Calypso is done I plan to strip the Javelin and recover it. I will most likely use the same trim scheme.

Since we now have the flag poles out to mark the box for pattern, I'll have to start practicing. We are going to have an Aerobatic Fun Fly on June 28th. This will be a just for fun type event. No awards (I think) just come out have fun and practice some aerobatics. Mostly we will be flying AMA pattern as well as FAI and F3M international scale aerobatics. We're working on plans to have a Pattern contest in January that will include all pattern classes as well as the new F3M class.

<o></o>

After six flights on the Calypso, I think it will work for AMA pattern. I do wish I had put a .91 four stoke in it now. Unfortunately, it can’t be changed do to the firewall location.

Notice in the pictures the grass under the plane. That's what our runways look like now. It just doesn't get any better than that.

Later.
