The whole thing with CA hinges is that the CA has to wick... soak into.. the hinge as well as the wood it is inserted  into.  This makes the bond between the hinge and the wood.  If you use thick CA, it will NOT flow into the slot and get to both the hinge and the wood.  IT HAS TO FLOW into the slot.  Thick CA will not do that.,  It will just settle at the base of the hinge and not soak, or wick in.
