Years ago when I was young, My father and I used to race control line models in the South Eastern US. We ran pretty much all classes from Slow Rat to B & C Proto. Well in doing this we mixed our own fuel for these models and did quite a bit of experimenting with Nitro percentages and Castor.
This story starts with the purchase of several 5 gallon clear jugs to store fuel in. We had a old Sears selfperpelled mower and well you guessed it. You know high nitro looks just like regular gasoline. My dad by mistake poured about 60+% Nitro in the Sears mower one afternoon. Seams it was kind of like the old Honda mower comercial with the old lady that pulld the chord one time, and wow it starts.
Well this thing fired up, and to quote my dad, I put the thing in gear and damb near had to run to keep up with it!
We are not sure what RPM's this 5HP Briggs was turning but it lasted about a minute. At which time it launched the piston out thru the side of the cylinder thru the neighbors garden into the dog lot.
I will never bad mouth Sears, as we poured out the model fuel from the tank and refilled it with gas, took it to Sears. "It just blew up I DON'T KNOW WHY?"
