Default Racing fuel in the wrong jug!

Years ago when I was young, My father and I used to race control line models in the South Eastern US. We ran pretty much all classes from Slow Rat to B & C Proto. Well in doing this we mixed our own fuel for these models and did quite a bit of experimenting with Nitro percentages and Castor.
This story starts with the purchase of several 5 gallon clear jugs to store fuel in. We had a old Sears selfperpelled mower and well you guessed it. You know high nitro looks just like regular gasoline. My dad by mistake poured about 60+% Nitro in the Sears mower one afternoon. Seams it was kind of like the old Honda mower comercial with the old lady that pulld the chord one time, and wow it starts.
Well this thing fired up, and to quote my dad, I put the thing in gear and damb near had to run to keep up with it!
We are not sure what RPM's this 5HP Briggs was turning but it lasted about a minute. At which time it launched the piston out thru the side of the cylinder thru the neighbors garden into the dog lot.
I will never bad mouth Sears, as we poured out the model fuel from the tank and refilled it with gas, took it to Sears. "It just blew up I DON'T KNOW WHY?"

Default Racing fuel in the wrong jug!

When I raced nitro boats using 90%, I did the same thing to my weedeater. One day at a race my standard nitro jug began to leak, so I put it in a red 1 gal gasoline jug that looked exactly like the one I keep my premix in. Well, a few weeks go by and I go to mow the lawn, pour in the nitro by mistake. WOW! After the bang, the piston was melted to the plug.

Did Sears honor their Lifetime Guarantee and replace it? Man this brings tears to my eyes from laughing soooo hard.

Default Sears Warrenty

Actually, Sears did honor the warrenty and gave us a new engine. I continued to use this same mower until just a few years ago when I finally retired it. I guess we probably used this thing for about 20 years total. Of course we were more careful about what we poured into it!

Thanks for the comments guy's I thought you might enjoy that story.

Of course it's a shame lawn equipment doesn't have a voice recorder, I guess the most common recording would be:
"What the hell made it do that?"
