Been there, done that...I think most of us have...it's not always a time out issue, it's a bug in the forum software or server or something....

While I don't have a solution, I can recommend a fix....most of us do it on here....

When you get done typing your message (especially a long one)....right click on the message, and then "select all" .... then, right click again, and click "copy"....

Then you will have a copy stored on your PC memory, and if that happens, you can close that whole reply, open a new one, and then right click, and click "paste" and it will apply the message in the new reply box....

Practice on a few small ones....I think there is even a "practice forum" somewhere on here...??
