RE: An MK 20 Size Conservation Project
Cosmos 20
I did a preliminary inventory of materials and parts and took some photos while I was at it. Unfortunately, I have to report that the kit is missing one sole piece of balsa - R2 - the TE portion of the rudder. Fortunately this is an easy piece to trace from plans and measure up and reproduce. I'll have to report the news to Joe.
Here are some pictures of the wood contents in the following order:
[ul][*] Wing (first shot)[*] Empennage (second shot)[*] Fuse (various shots)
[/ul]
Wood quality, weight and attention to detail is surprising even with these lower cost kits (well,... once upon a time). In particular, what is nice to see are the preshaped CNC balsa blocks that considerably assist in the building of the model and reduce the amount of shaping and sanding required. The pieces are primarily used in the front nose/cowl area and the fuse/fin junction. These blocks will require the most attention in CAD in order to be reproduced.
