Just an idea, but before drilling out the nipple for the tygon, note that the black stuff is also good if it's dubro- dubro sells smoke tubing, and that's what I believe it is- Also, the tygon will melt on the exhaust, and the black "high temp" tubing will not.
Other than that, it sounds like you've got a sound plan that should work quite well-
