Ok, my finished weight was approx 7lb's 14 oz's. As the plane sits curently it it powered by a Tower .75 with the stock muffler spinning a APC 12-7 with a Tru turn 3-1/4 lightend back plate spinner. The fuel used was WC 10% Extra Premium. The Radio used was Spectrum DX7 with a 6200 reciever which feed JR DS821 servo's with a 5 cell 1200 mah battery pack. The take of roll was uneventfull other than the normall right rudder imput with full up elevator that I began to ease off after about 5-8'. After about 15-20' I ROG with a shallow 10 degree climbout when I discovered it was gaining speed quite rapidly. I put in a couple clicks of down elevator. The plane felt so comfortable on the second circut of the pattern that I did a inverted pass about 20' at full stick. The plane rolls very axily and knife edges both ways for as far as you can see with hardly any coupling whatsoever. I tried to stall it @ altitude and it just mushed forward and woukld not drop a wing tip. I then proceeded to do a quarter speed flyby to start and evaluate the low speed handling which I felt was pretty solid. On the next time around a set up with a very shallow decent followed with the tower .75 @ idle and come over the runway threshold @ approx 7-8'. I touched down at mid field with about a 100' rollout. On the next five flights I started to play with the plane doing loops so big that I heard guys questioning the range of the radio. ROFL The plane allways felt totally under controll and very solid, but like it was litterally on fire.
After yesterday, I know that the Shoestring will be sitting at home alot as I explore the flight characteristicsd of the MM more. I found that while in the approach, side slipping dramactily lowered the runnout on the ground, and allowed me to touch down pretty much were ever I wanted to on the strip. This plane will float for a long long distance if you are not acustomed to a sleek airframe. I highly recommend this plane with Tower .75 for a very rewarding flying experinece. I made sure to ballance it @ 90mm lateraly, and checked the axial balance which was also good enough for me. I set it up according to the manual which was a very good starting point, but I feel it could use a little more aileron for the next flights. Keeping the elevator at the recommended range of up/down 20mm will really help with the inadvertant tip stall snap which I could not even get it to do. I have not done any spin testing yet, but would compare the flying charateristics to that of a 80's pattern plane so far.
It is pleasure to fly and a envy at the field allready, and this all took place with many 40-43% planes sitting on the field.
